Can Feeding Raw Make Me or My Family Sick?

Can Feeding Raw Make Me or My Family Sick?
Well, yes of course. But our food can contain harmful bacteria as well.

Practicing safe food handling & sanitizing when handling your pets food is just as important as handling our own food.

Follow the same guidelines you would when prepping raw meat for your families.

Foodsafety.gov and the CDC recommendations for safe handling (with a little word changing to apply to feeding dogs vs human food) :

- Clean: Wash Hands, Utensils, and Surfaces Often.
Germs that can make you sick can survive in many places around your kitchen, including your food, hands, utensils, cutting boards, and countertops. Wash your hands for 20seconds after touching any raw meat, and sanitize all countertops & surfaces when finished.

- Separate: Don’t Cross Contaminate. Keep raw meat away from any other foods in the kitchen. Preferably, do not feed your dog while preparing your meals.

- Chill: Refrigerate and Freeze Food Properly. Store all raw foods in freezer until feeding, then in the fridge for 3-4 days. Store raw meat away from any non meat foods.

I always recommend washing your dog bowl after each meal, and washing in a dishwasher.
